Why did this Rome car booking not crash my credit card right away? I think the main reason is the One-Dollar Freeze plan I used when I booked with QEEQ. When I first sat at my desk at home, it was around mid June and I was planning my trip to Italy. I wanted a luxury car in Rome, an Audi A5, but I felt a bit nervous. I am an overseas visitor and I also had hotels and other costs in my mind. I was worried that a big payment at once would push my card too hard. Then I saw this payment plan that said I only needed to pay 1 dollar first to reserve the car and the rest would be charged automatically before the rental started. This sounded simple and it made my mind relax. I felt that my card pressure would not explode on day one. So I booked the car with that plan. I chose the model I really liked because the first payment was only 1 dollar. In my head I told myself that I could lock the car now and check other travel costs later. It felt flexible and safe for me. A few days before my real pickup date in Rome maybe one or two days earlier I got the message that the full amount was charged. The number was what I expected and there was no interest and no strange extra fee. I checked my credit card and I did not feel shock. The payment came in a calm way and I could handle it. Even when things got messy at the rental counter later with the request for two credit cards and I had to change my plan and rent again I still felt that at least the booking step did not make my finances break. I could plan my hotels and activities first and then get my card ready for the final charge. For me as a traveler this way of paying only 1 dollar at the start made the whole preparation easier and my credit card pressure small.
