In order to rent in SRI LANKA please be advised that customers have to hold an international driving permit and this needs to be approved by the Sri Lanka Automobile Association. Therefore the IDP and passport of the driver has to be faxed or emailed to SR rent acar in advance (please allow at least 2-3 working days) to e-mail - elitesrilanka@yahoo.com. The cost of 50 EU will be payable at counter The approved documents will be at the location to be picked up along with the vehicle. Customers who don't have International driving License must go in person to the Dept of Motor Vehicles for approval. Mon-Fri, non-public holidays only. Passport photo is required and a cost will be charged.

Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.
To get a temporary Sri Lankan driving license, prepare your original driving license, International Driving Permit, passport, and one passport‑size photo to the local Department of Motor Traffic. SR offers processing service at 50 EUR per license. Send scanned documents and photo to srilankarentacar@yahoo.com with subject TDL Request, at least 4 working days in advance.
